Kyle Burgess (KD7IYT)

Kyle developed a passion for ham radio at a young age when his uncle introduced him to the hobby in the late 1990s. Already fascinated by electronics, he often disassembled devices to gain a deeper understanding of their inner workings. As he grew older, his interest in computers led him to pursue a career in the field, starting as an Information Systems Technician for the local school district he was still attending. With the advent of cell phones, his reliance on radio communication decreased, and although he never completely abandoned the hobby, his engagement with it waned as his life became busier.

Eventually, as his career stabilized, Kyle found the opportunity to rekindle his passion for ham radio. Driven by a desire to contribute to his community, he joined the Snohomish County Auxiliary Communications Service and the Snohomish County Search & Rescue Operations Support Unit. Around the same time, he discovered a vehicle in an online auction that inspired him. That vision would not only allow him to fulfill his dream of helping his community but also bring back the enjoyment of the hobby he once had as a kid.

Since then, Kyle has actively collaborated with the City of Marysville Emergency Management and Tulalip Emergency Management to enhance their communication resilience. He has also formed the Marysville & Tulalip Auxiliary Communications Service to further educate community members on the importance of effective communication during emergencies, all while promoting awareness about ham radio and its role in disaster response.
